Example of "Remediation" in My Life Experience

Although there are very few examples of Remediation in daily life but some of those few are really very interesting and surprising. According to Bolter and Grusin definition of remediation, it means that some new medium e.g a digital world is presenting some old thought or working in a modern way without giving any connection or regard to the original source.

Once in my life, I get a chance to visit theatre opened very near to my home. There was a theme of performing arts. Around seven to ten actors were participated in it and showed their talent by just moving their bodies. During the whole play, they remained silent. First time ever I attended a play that was totally without dialogues and actors were just presenting the whole story through their actions on the soft beats of music. I was really astonished but interested too. It was a beautiful play in terms of calamity and softness but one point was pinching me what was the thought behind this play. I personally really appreciated the writers, players and the entire team who prepared this and presented it in such an astonishing way.

Later on, one day while passing through the history section of my local library, I just randomly picked a book on cultural variations of China. I don’t remember the name of book and author now but by just going through its pages, I stopped at a page titled “China – A Beautiful Culture”. I started to study that. There I come to know that in China, there are few areas where people celebrate their special events by just demonstrating them, without telling others through the words. It’s a mark of some special event occurred or they got something extraordinary but this culture is almost vanished now (David & Grusin,1998).

I consider my experience as a true reflection of remediation according to Bolter and Grusin. Because according to them remediation is presenting the old thoughts through new medium without giving any reference as in the performing arts play, they didn’t mentioned that it is inspired from Chinese Culture.
